FAQs

What you need to know for our guided tours, camps and rentals

Do I need a reservation?

Yes, reservations are required for all tours and can be made online through any of the book buttons on the site. For questions or group bookings, call our office at 302-841-2722. We suggest booking at least several days in advance especially during July and August. We suggest booking early in your stay, so if the weather is inclement we can reschedule later that week.  Please inform guides of any medical conditions that you or a loved one may have.  Children of all ages are welcome on our tour as per the discretion of the parent.  The guides reserve the right to not allow a child to go as far as weather or abilities are concerned.

For group rentals, please call ahead so we can be sure to have the equipment needed and ready.ᅠ   We will give you as much notice as possible.  We accept all credit cards and cash.  You pay when you get there for group bookings.

Cancellation Policy: To ensure the best experience possible, Ecobay Kayak & SUP limits the number of participants per tour. For this reason, it is necessary for us to incorporate the following cancellation policy: Groups of 5 or more must cancel at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled tour. Groups of 4 or fewer must cancel at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled tour. This goes for all members of your party.  If you find one of your party can’t make it (life happens, we get it) please let us know as soon as possible.  Our guides physically ready all your equipment prior to your arrival, so out of respect for us and their backs, please let us know!

Will tours be canceled due to inclement weather?

Ecobay Kayak & SUP reserves the right to cancel any tour at any time if we feel that the weather or conditions present an unsafe situation. Of course any tours cancelled due to weather would result in a refund to all participants. We do not cancel tours in the event of light rain or drizzle. If there is any thunder or lightening we will cancel the tour. We are very knowledgeable about the areas where we do the tours.. We do our best to cancel 1 hr. before your scheduled time so that you do not ready your party.  We listen to the weatherman, but do take him with a grain of salt.   If we cancelled every time he said it was going to rain, we would not of had a business for 12 years.  With that being said, we suggest you book early in your stay so that if the weather does become inclement we can reschedule later in the week.

What should I bring?

Make sure to wear clothes and shoes that can get wet. You will definitely be getting your feet wet! It’s a good idea to bring a long sleeve shirt or light jacket, sunglasses, hat, water, sunscreen, bug spray, snack, or picnic lunch.  James Farm has a wonderful beach to relax at after your paddle. Please let us know if you are bringing a camera as we have dry bags that you may borrow for the tour.

What do I need to know about rentals?

It is best in season to call ahead and reserve, from a single kayak or SUP to 20 plus.  If we know what to expect, we can accommodate almost anything.  We strongly urge all participants to wear foot protection for all of the activities that we offer. The James Farm Ecological Preserve is a public beach.  You never know what is going to be on the bottom and you never know when you made need to or want to get out of your vessel. So it is best to have something on your feet so you don’t cut yourself on glass, or a sharp shell, or a submerged branch, etc. Water shoes, teva-type sandals, crocks, flip-flops, or old sneakers are the best options.

Items to bring:

  • Comfortable clothing that you can get wet in
  • Sunglasses (polarized are best so that you can see in the water)
  • Sunscreen
  • Clothing layers appropriate for the temperature
  • Hat
  • Drinking water
  • Snacks/lunch
  • Bug-spray
  • A smile!
