Ecobay Kayak was born out of the genuine love of nature and all her beauty.  Long ago, perhaps 20 years, I worked aboard a whale watching vessel in Hawaii.  My job was to take people snorkeling and bridge the gap between the safety and security of the vessel to the vast unknown natural world beneath them, that which some traveled more than 6000 miles to see.  The breaching whales, 300 ft waterfalls, beautiful Hawaiian people and sunsets were cool (insert laugh) but I genuinely fell in love with helping people experience nature.

Fast forward a few years  to my hometown in Delaware, I found myself craving the physical activity and desire to show newcomers the beauty that surrounds us here in Sussex County.  I began a partnership with the Center for the Inland Bays borrowing six of their kayaks my first few years.  Over the past 15 years we have grown to a fleet of 30 kayaks and have since added Stand Up Paddle boards to the fun.

It is Ecobay Kayak & SUP’s mission to provide a safe, educational and fun environment to explore, experience, and be in this beautiful setting myself and our guides call home.  We welcome you to join us in our daily discovery of the bays and all their natural treasures.

I always take time to mention Mary Lighthype from which this generous piece of land was donated.  Mary had the vision to keep this very special place on the water safe from development.  She wanted it used for educational and recreational purposes and that is exactly what it is.  Thank you to the Center for the Inland Bays for maintaining and loving this land as much as she did.
